“Opener Josh Mease ribbed the audience with rigidly assigned fictional names (not everyone in there was named Bob, I’m at least 85% sure) and a set of breathy, stoic folk-pop that sounded far more resonant live than on his modest records: Myriad autumnal dirges, huskily imploring da-da-da-das, implacable swoons in the arid Iron and Wine vein. Most of the setlist came from Mease’s latest album, Wilderness, and it’s pretty fetching stuff: ballad “Eleanor” shared a little of Patrick Watson’s wicked circus-dirge leanings, as inflected by the minor undertones Mease toys with so often. All the Bobs seemed delighted by this one, especially.”

” Josh Mease brings a subtle variety of musical influences to his brand of folk rock, from lounge jazz to country and blues.  His unassuming vocals lead the way to a world free from the hustle and bustle of New York City streets, and the instrumentalists providing his backup make him more than just another Brooklyn singer/songwriter.  The songs he writes serve many purposes, and you may end up humming the melodies to more than one of his tunes on your way to grab a drink at the bar.”

Very excited about this one! There are going to be some special guests playing different instruments. Plus, I get to play opposite my label mates, Clare & The Reasons!  Their great new record, Arrow, is out the same day (10/20) on Frogstand Records.  Tickets for this show aren’t available online beforehand.  You have to purchase at Mercury at the time of the show.  Hope you can make it!
